Tirokafteri (Spicy Greek Feta Dip)

Our first pick is traditional spicy Greek feta dip, with an irresistibly tangy, slightly spicy, creamy, savory flavor profile. Do note – this is made with pimento peppers, so it is not the fieriest dip on this list, you can substitute things out to make it to your spice preference. 

Ingredients

  • 10 ounces of feta cheese
  • Two red peppers, medium roasted
  • Two tablespoons of olive oil
  • A tablespoon of red wine vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
  • One small clove of garlic 
  • A quarter of a teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes (or more, to your preference)
  • Optional garnishes: extra crumbled feta or crushed red pepper flakes, dried oregano, or Kalamata olives

Method

  1. Combine all of your ingredients in a food processor, and blitz until it is a smooth puree.
  • Transfer your mix to a serving bowl, and top with all of your desired garnishes.  Alternately, you can refrigerate it in a sealed container, and it will stay good for up to three days.
  • Serve alongside warm pitta, chopped veggie batons, or crusty toasted ciabatta. You can even spread it in sandwiches, or put it on a salad!

Super Creamy, Lemony Feta Dip

This dip has a citrussy flavor to it, due to the lemon juice that is added, giving it a bright complexity of flavor, helping to cut through all the fatty cheese. 

Ingredients

  • One red chili 
  • One clove of garlic 
  • One lemon (both the zest and the juice for a strong flavor!)
    One small handful of fresh mint 
  • 500 g feta cheese
  • 120 g olive oil 
  • Cracked black pepper (added to taste)

Method

  • Add the lemon rind, garlic, mint, and chili to a food processor, and mince together till they form a rough paste. Scrape down the sides of the bowl  
  •  Add your feta, lemon juice, and black pepper to taste. Blend again, whilst drizzling in the oil. When it has been blended to your preferred consistency, you can plate it, and serve it alongside salad, veg, and bread. 

Chili And Avocado Feta Dip

This dip doubles up the fats, with both feta and avocado featuring as main ingredients. Use your preferred chili flakes for a spicy kick!

Ingredients

  • Two avocados that are peeled and pit removed
  • ½ cup of  feta cheese
  • ¼ cup of diced red onion
  • One clove of minced garlic
  • One tablespoon of minced jalapeño pepper 
  • ¼ teaspoon of red pepper flakes
  • ⅓ cup of chopped cilantro
  • Juice of one lime
  • Salt and cracked black pepper, to your preference

Method

  1. Put the avocados, feta, onions, chillies, pepper flakes, cilantro, garlic, and lime juice in the bowl of the food processor. Blitz ingredients together until they are creamy and smooth. Season with pepper and salt to taste to your own preference.

Whipped Feta Dip With Spicy Honey

This dish covers three different types of savory flavors – including spice, sweet and sour. It truly is a beautiful dish, and if you take it to a potluck, it will knock everything else out of the park. 

Ingredients For The Whipped Feta

  • 200 g of  feta cheese
  • 100 g of ricotta
  • 50 g of sour cream
  • Salt and cracked black pepper
  • Pita chips, raw veggies, of crusty toasted bread for serving
  • One teaspoon each of: za’atar, sesame seeds, for serving

Ingredients Of The Spicy Honey

  • Five tablespoons of honey
  • One tablespoon of olive oil
  • One clove of minced garlic
  • Two tablespoons of  lemon juice
  • One teaspoon of crushed red chili flakes, with extra for garnishing
  • Salt and cracked black pepper

Method

  1. Add room temperature feta, ricotta, and sour cream to a food processor. Season with the salt and pepper. Blend on high setting until all ingredients are combined and smooth, about 2-3 minutes. Taste, and add more salt and pepper if needed.
  2. In a saucepan, heat up your olive oil. Add garlic, and sauté on very low heat until soft. Turn off the heat, and then stir in honey, lemon juice and chili flakes. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Serve the whipped feta with spicy honey drizzled on top. Garnish with chives, za’atar, sesame seeds, some extra freshly ground black pepper, and chili flakes. This is best enjoyed with pita chips, naan, or a big plate of veggies.

Spicy Whipped Feta With Roasted Tomatoes And Toasted Chickpeas

This dip has toppings galore, so the spice isn’t the only highlight, and you can make a whole (veg packed) meal with this dip. 

Ingredients For The Roasted Toppings

  • 16 oz of cherry tomatoes
  • 12 oz of canned chickpeas
  • Two teaspoons of dried thyme
  • Two teaspoons of dried oregano
  • Three tablespoons of olive oil
  • One teaspoon of chili pepper flakes
  • Salt and pepper

Ingredients For The Whipped Feta

  • Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F. In a sheet pan add the tomatoes, chickpeas, olive oil, thyme, oregano, chili, salt, and pepper. Toss everything together. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until tomatoes have blistered and start to burst. Set aside to slightly cool.
  • In your food processor, add all your ingredients. Blitz until all ingredients are combined and smooth. Spread dip on a plate to serve.
  • Top with the warm roasted tomato and chickpeas. Garnish with an extra drizzle of honey, za’atar, olive oil, black pepper, and chili flakes. 

Spicy mint, pea, and feta dip = fresh, zingy, and with a hint of spice, this dish is great, especially for hot summer days, or taking on picnics. 

Ingredients

  • 200 g frozen peas
  • 100 g of cubed feta cheese
  • One tablespoon of lemon juice
  • One teaspoon of chili pepper flakes
  • One handful of fresh mint leaves
  • One tablespoon of olive oil 

Method

  • Cook all the frozen peas in salted water at a rolling boil for three minutes until they are tender. Drain, then rinse in cold water until totally cooled.
  • Pat the peas dry with a kitchen towel, then blitz in a blender along with the lemon juice, chili, feta, oil, and half of the mint leaves – the texture should be almost smooth, but be careful of not over blending. 
  • Once the dip has reached your preferred consistency, pour onto a plate to serve,  and season generously to taste. Garnish with the remaining mint leaves and serve.
